August 15, 2008, Newsletter Issue #128: The Cost Of Operating Laser Printers With Toner Cartridges

Tip of the Week

In recent years, the cost of purchasing laser printers has dropped significantly. Buying a model for under $500 that has a high page per minute printing capability, built-in networking and the ability to print on glossy paper is now possible.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that even though you may spend less on the initial purchase of laser printers, you’ll make up for it in the cost of buying and replacing toner cartridges. For instance, the Brother HL-2700 CN produces documents in black ink at a cost of .02 cents per page. To print color pages, you’ll be spending .09 cents per page. To replace a full set of toner cartridges, including black, cyan, magenta and yellow, you could be spending about $700.
